As a parallel to other studies of regional transformation, I am also collaborating with Mark Lycett on his project at the pueblo of Paa-ko, in New Mexico, which investigates Spanish colonial transformations in Pueblo economies and cultural worlds.  Using pollen, sediment chemistry, stable isotopes, and artifact and feature distributions, we are working to trace site-structural activity patterns across a series of early colonial period plaza surfaces in order to analyze microspatial practices and their transformations under colonialism, as well as working on problems of long-term vegetation history and the impacts on vegetation from grazing animals.
